Dear Advisory Committee
Llanuwchllyn Community Council
Gwynedd
Llanuwchllyn Community Council’s views on Electoral Candidate Lists
Llanuwchllyn Community Council believes that candidates for a Senedd Cymru seat should be named, rather than chosen solely on the basis of their party.
The Council agrees that applicants should not be discriminated against on the basis of gender.
We agree that Senedd Cymru member numbers need to be increased
1. We agree that Senedd Cymru powers need to be extended
2. WE DO NOT AGREE with the placement of a statutory gender quota
3. We DO NOT agree with the requirement for at least half the candidates on a party’s list in all Senedd constituencies to be women (in cases where the list includes two or more candidates). Furthermore, the requirement for a list to be arranged so that the name of a non-woman candidate on a list must be immediately followed by a woman candidate (unless that is the last name on the list). These are the vertical placement criteria.
4. We do not agree with the requirement for the first or only candidate on at least half the lists submitted by a party to be a woman (in cases where a party has submitted lists in two or more Senedd constituencies). These are the horizontal placement criteria.
5. We DO NOT agree with the requirement for all candidates on a party list to declare whether or not they are women.
Yours faithfully,
Lis Puw, Council Clerk
